A few months back we had a romantic weekend away at the excellent New House Country Hotel just north of Cardiff.

We fancied somewhere special and New House certainly lived up to that!

The hotel is situated on the hills just north of the city and has a spectacular view down over Cardiff and the Bristol Channel.

The hotel is very luxurious and feels just like my idea of a country manor hotel. Even the gravel drive sounded right as we arrived!

We were lucky to be allocated one of the rooms with a balcony looking down over Cardiff and as you can see in the second photo below the view is impressive! The room was very comfortable.

The reception and bar area is very comfortable. We had dinner the evening we arrived and the food was very good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and I can definitely recommend it.

Update: 12th February 2009 – I just realised that the first photo of the hotel with bride looks a bit posed – in fact this was genuine.  The bride just happened to come out of the hotel as we were admiring the view !
